Psychology Applications - The Morning

The morning session of your psychology careers day focuses on what you need to do to secure a place at university and the different careers it can open up for you. We start off by examining where a psychology degree can take you. Psychology straddles the middle of both scientific and arts careers so it’s a really good, well rounded choice when it comes to a degree. You may find yourself post university entering a career in clinical psychology but you could just as easily end up deciding your understanding of human behaviour would be better suited in something like journalism or law.

We’ll discuss the various career options with you, mapping out routes into each one before we move onto how to secure a place at university to study psychology.

There used to be a time not too long ago when psychology degrees were Ba, now almost all are BSc which reflects the science heavy nature of the degree. You’ll spend a lot of time in labs for the first year and working on statistics, so be prepared for this when it comes to thinking of choosing the subject. We’ll discuss all the entry requirements that exist around the various universities for gaining a place and the best subjects at GCSE and A-levels to consider taking too.

Unlike many other subjects, psychology can be a hard subject to visualise and imagine what the course will be like, so we’ll explain all about life as a psychology student which will go a long way in determining your interest in pursuing the subject.

Psychology Work Experience - The Afternoon

After lunch your afternoon session is dedicated to gaining some psychology work experience.

We’ll first of all explain the main areas of Psychology, Cognitive, Social, Biological and Clinical. We’ll explain what they all encompass and offer some interactive work experience tasks for you to complete with your fellow students to give you a taste of your future career.

We finish up the day with a Q&A session where its your chance to ask anything you may want to know about applying to Psychology degrees, career choices or life as a psychologist.

This is a great opportunity to meet with professionals to give you a real understanding of psychology as a university and future career choice through expert advice and guidance.

You’ll receive a certificate of course completion and have a detailed understanding of the various career options open to you and what a psychology course entails, as well as some very useful psychology work experience too.
